Ryan McDermott is currently a medical student at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, where he received degrees in Biology and Anthropology. He has previously conducted research on the detection of cancer cells through novel fluorescent smart probes. His current work with Dr. Ilya Ulasov focuses on the biology, etiology, and therapy of metastatic brain tumors. Ryan is very strongly considering pursuing a residency in neurosurgery and because of this, is very excited to have the opportunity to conduct research in the field of neuro-oncology. Regardless of what specialty he goes into, Ryan desires to have a large research component in his future career.
